I know that there are tons of free computer based voice recorders out there, including some used for making podcasts. I wondered, has anyone used them to get EVP perhaps with a free standing computer mic?

I wanted to give my guide a chance to talk. Thought I'd leave it recording and then go out for an hour, taking my dog with me. Or overnight, as long as I can remember discount animal noises and my lover talking in his sleep.

Any thoughts? What are the best programs? Any other things that might work better?

you can catch EVPs on virtually anything that records sounds. so yes it is possible to catch EVPs on a computer system.

I record directly into my computer when doing ghost box sessions. In the process, I have caught voices that sound more like traditional evps. Go ahead and give it a shot.

I use Wavepad most of the time because it's the most quick and dirty of the programs I've got. Audacity is great, too.

you can get yourself a nice audio program is you want (not required, but helpful). A good set of headphones which you can turn the volume up on the phones themselves. Also Plenty of patience.

Hi,

I’m currently using a free audio recording programme called audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ which is a programme that's easy to use and all that is required is your pc, microphone and speakers (often built into your pc).

I downloaded that particular programme to record meditations for the show I was doing for spiritual connextions radio; but whilst recording the show, I noticed odd words that would appear in the middle of my recordings...they would always be words that emphasised and modified the meditation for the better, so I would re-record it, including the new words.

So, back to the point - I expect you could use that programme to capture EVP's, or if you have a cheap mp3 player (some of them offer voice recorders, I know mine does)

I also think Microsoft as a mini voice recorder, but you can only save them as wave files, which you can find in accessories, I think?

Good Luck, and consider posting up results when you get around to trying it?!

I knew about that source forge program already, it is ace! Of course I'll post anything up that I find.
Only thing that worries me is, what if something else comes through? I mean, even though a lot of us (the UM members, I mean) live with spirit every day, the thought of something "uninvited" deciding to pop in, makes me a tad nervous. Where I live is reasonably modern, so perhaps it will be ok. That said, I have to live here when my tests are completed so...*shiver*

I realize that these are the risks we take with any form of spirit communication but is it best just to ask out for Ethan directly and put myself in white light as I do when he communicates with me "mentally?" Or, should I just record and play it by ear?

Doing a white light protection never hurts. A lot of researchers are also adamant that you must officially close the opening to the spirit world when you are finished with a session.

Personally, I am forgetful and rarely do either. Like you, I am concentrating on communicating with just one spirit (Oscar!). He's very protective of me and is probably automatically blocking out any negative spirits. I have gotten at least one other spirit come through, though. That seems to be his niece, who likewise sees me as family. No worries there!
