Just to get everyone up to speed, I have an odd little situation going on at the museum house where I work part time. It was home to 3 generations of the family between 1852 to 1975, then was turned into a museum of Victorian life after the last family member died. They tried to restore it as closely as possible to what it was like during the Civil War era.

About a year and a half ago, one of the ghosts, a young soldier who died in the Civil War, played a particularly attention getting prank on me. I figured that since he wanted my attention so bad, I would try to mentally send myself to go talk to him. Instead of finding myself in the parlor or outside where his ghost had been seen smoking, I found myself in an surprisingly romantic situation, snuggled up with him on a swing with snow gently falling around us. Keep in mind that I generally don't have an ounce of romanticism in my body and would not normally be attracted to a military type regardless. The next day, I asked him what they heck was that all about? He told me that I was his wife!

I've spent a lot of time over the past year trying to get this all sorted out. In the process, I discovered a photograph of him that had been sitting unidentified in the collection of the other museum I work for. No one in the first museum even knew that any photographs of him still existed, although they did have 2 paintings of him. Both of the paintings were clearly based on this photograph.

From there, I was able to find the photo album it originally came from, which belonged to a family that lived a block away. When I opened it up, I saw a familiar face - mine! There was an unidentified photo of a young woman who looked remarkably like me when I was 17.

Recently, I've started working with a ghost box (like Frank's Box, only mine is a Radio Shack hack version). On the first day using it, I got the two following answers from him:

http://www.eeriecanal.org/FB%202-3-08%20What%20am%20I%20to%20you.mp3

http://www.eeriecanal.org/FB%202-3-08%20What%20are%20you%20to%20me.mp3

So, I'm tending to believe the whole reincarnation thing. This may make me a crackpot, but at least I've got disembodied voices around who are in the same boat. =)

Franks box is a AM/FM radio that scans through the channels (and randomizes with some models) it's noise is garbled, but messages can get through the box

speaking of frank's box. With your ghostbox Abbey what are the two EVP's saying?

I think the first one is saying "A good voice"? and the second one he's saying strange?

Strange? LOL! What I'm hearing in the second one is a husky, whispered "husband" and "good wife" on the first.

It is frustrating that the sound card and speakers can make a difference on how these sound. I've had ones that sound quite different when I've listened to them on my brother's computer, and he has a ritzier setup than I do. My setup is cheap, but everything still sounds clearer on mine for some reason.

(edited to add that my system is cheap. I didn't want folks thinking that I was disparaging their sound systems as bottom of the line trash if they couldn't hear it. =)

I love evps. The first time that it sank in that ghosts really, really do exist was when I got my first evp, which happened to be a direct answer to the question I asked. I could see where someone could be weirded out by them, though. When I heard the first one I captured, I was completely freaked out for a few minutes.

Oddly, with Oscar, I tried working with him for a year to get evps and could not get a single sound out of him. Once I got my hack, he suddenly became quite chatty. I guess maybe the extra energy from the base sounds of the hack gave him more energy to play off of.

ok, im an I.T head so a hack to me is the person who debugs/finds the bugs in a program or system!! and im pretty sure that your hack is not the same as my hack - so next stoopid question abbeygal - whats a hack? lol... sorry i'll stop asking questions if you ask me to..

i ventured into the evp gig with trepidation, I have seen things, heard somethings- singular words no sentences, with the exception of two occasions - something told me to "get out" and my name was called out, very clearly in my house so evp was the next natural step.

I used my mp3 player the first time(it had a voice recorder on it) and the 2nd time i used my mobile phone(again voice recorder), the 1st one was like a couple of sighs at the end of our conversation, but i knew that they weren't us - so i put it on the computer and isolated the clip and slowed it down(plain old media player) and it sounded like something like - Im kissing/missing up here or im wishing up here, i'll send it to you if you would like a listen, maybe you could decipher. its a male voice anyway.

the 2nd one wasnt as clear and it is kinda hard to decipher, quite mumbled but curiously enough sounds like it was said right into the mic, but still incoherent enough. I have a few more on my other computer to listen to yet.

i feel like ive just wrote a novel, my apologies people!!

Go ahead and send the files. I'd be interested to hear them.

In this case, a hack is a store bought radio modified so that its scanning function scans continuously instead of stopping when it finds a station.

What a fab story!!!!!! How interesting that you happen to end up working in the very place that you have past life connections to! Have you had a regression of any kind done, and is there any information about your previous self that you've found yet?

How you must have felt when you saw that photo - oo tingles! I remember when I saw myself in a similar situation, I can't get over that feeling of 'omg that's me' - too werid for words huh?

I think there was a little divine intervention in getting me to work there. A couple of psychics have told me stuff along the lines of "the house chose me" and that I shouldn't quit my job there because I was meant to be there. The latter came out of the blue from a reader I don't know personally at a time when I was thinking about quitting because between that and my day job, I was getting burnt out from working almost 60 hours a week. I haven't tried regression yet, but I have been working on other ways to recover my memory of that life. I have regained some clear memories of that life.

It's been very interesting getting validation about this through some friends of mine who are psychic. Oscar has given me some information automatic writing through a friend and was able to pass along a code word I had given him for validation. He has also been pestering me through another friend to find some coins in a trunk that have some significance to my life. He called me by my legal name, which my friend didn't know. That certainly got my attention! So again, I tend to trust the information I'm getting.

The photo is interesting, but I have to admit, my gut feeling when I saw it for the first time was that it was a close relative instead of me. Further detective work has shown it to be that of a woman who is maybe 8 years younger than Oscar. Considering that he died at the age of 20, it is extremely unlikely that they were married. The other big shock was seeing the ring on Oscar's pinky finger. When I first saw that, it felt very important. It later came out in an automatic writing session that he wore his wedding ring on that finger to keep our marriage a secret. My father would not give us permission to be married, as Oscar was not in a financial position to support me properly.

I am frustrated in that I haven't been able to document this in the historic records. Since we took vows to each other but were never legally or religiously married, there is no record of that. I do know the name of the women in the photograph. Unfortunately, the only record I could find of her is a mention of her as a bridesmaid in a wedding in the local newspaper.

And yes, Sharon, oh what a beautiful, enticing voice he has!

Yesterday was amuse Oscar day.

First I took him to a Civil War encampment put on by the local reenactors' group. He enjoyed that. I don't know why anyone would want to relive a part of their life that was based in war, but it seems so important to old soldiers. I would swear that the majority of the reenactors themselves are reincarnations of soldiers who fought then. Interestingly, I have come across a bunch of reenactors on MySpace who do believe themselves to be the reincarnations of people from then. I am particularly fascinated by the case of Jessica Jewitt, the woman who was Fanny Chamberlain, the wife of Civil War hero and governor of Maine Joshua Chamberlain. Not only is her own story compelling, there are a lot of people in her life today who are the spitting images of people from Fanny's life during the Civil War.

Getting into the spirit of things, I made Oscar his own MySpace page, too. It's at http://www.myspace.com/oscarkelton I figured that would be a nice way to honor his service in the war. He seems pretty pleased about it.

It's been slow going at the museum house for half a year, but something interesting finally happened last night. Alas, not to me personally nor by Oscar, but I'll take what I can get.

I was working a wedding last night when a caterer came up to me and asked who the ghost was in the attic. He had overshot the second floor while trying to find the staff restroom (the "do not open or an alarm will sound" sign on the door dissuaded him from opening the correct door) and ended up in the attic by mistake. Once there, he got a major creepy "get out" feeling. So, I told him about Arthur, one of the younger sons of the family. He suffered from dementia in his later years. The family kept him locked up in the attic for his own safety. That sucks, but of course the only alternative they had back them was sending him to the local lunatic asylum. It is not uncommon for people to feel very uncomfortable up there, or to feel a whoosh of air come out the attic door as they open it. I have had a couple of instances where I went up there to change into my costume, then came out to find the attic door being held open by the extended deadbolt. The only way to get the bolt to stick out like that after opening the door is to turn the key 360 degrees in the opposite direction. That doesn't happen by accident. One of the times it happened to me was after I had gotten locked in the restroom a few minutes previous to entering the attic. It was like Arthur wanted me to feel safe from being locked in again.

You gotta love Oscar. I was writing a message to a friend about him a few minutes ago. I stopped in the middle of a sentence to consider how I wanted to word it. When I looked back up at the screen, a smiley had mysteriously inserted itself where I had left off. I know damn well that I hadn't typed that!

From what I've read Abbey, he doesn't seem to be shy at all. I was wondering if Oscar was hesistant at first in making contact with you.

I worked at the museum house for a year before he started talking to me. I had been aware of his presence off and on before that, though. Sometimes I could feel him escort me back to my office when I helped out over lunch hour. I just assumed that his mom told him “Now, Oscar, you walk the nice lady home to make sure she gets there safely,” rather than it being his idea. But it was funny, because I kept getting a clear impression of him in these big moustaches and other manly man facial hair. Oscar was only 20 when he died and looked his age. I’d laugh at him and say “Who are you trying to impress? I’m a little old lady!” Another time I was sitting on the floor in the dining room cleaning some delicate dishware. I could feel him kneeling beside me. I figured that he was keeping an eye on my to make sure I didn’t break anything. Had I only known!

Once he did start talking to me, he immediately laid the news on me about the past life. I asked him why he hadn’t approached me about it earlier. I got this extremely wistful voice in my head saying “They told me not to for fear of scaring you off.” Oh, my, the amount of emotion that came through with that. There was such a strong sense of longing in it. That was the first time that I truly believed him about the past life.

Wow, Abbey......judging by the tapestry pillow and his features, he must have been about 6'4.

He has large hands. Is that a ring on his left pinky? If so there might be a clue there (family heirloom, departed loved one, etc.)

It looks like a ring of sometype, but might just be a shadow image from his pantleg.
