Hey guys, i'm going to ask for everyone's opinion on this. You guys are all so great about sharing helpful hints and experiences on this site...bless you all.

Cayen, I think what you're doing, pushing the limits with experimental devices is great.

For those really interested, not just thrill-seekers, what type of investigations do you guys suggest others start out with? Guided tours?
Overnite events with groups? Larger events, like at the Stanley, to see what equipment/techniques others are using?

I think a lot of people see shows like GH and think they must have this mind-blowing, active location (at places like Waverly Hills) to experience the paranormal.

Just starting out, yeah, Waverly would be amazing! But also probably pretty overwhelming. Just the sheer size and history behind the grounds.

I'm going to invest some time this spring to go to smaller scale sites in the midwest. Baby steps!

my suggestion is get up the money to go to a full Darkness radio event. It does not matter which one you go to. It's a good way to learn about ghost hunting and making needed contacts with local groups and national groups.

Also when you go ghost hunting they will ask who has never been ghost hunting RAISE YOUR HAND! they won't bite and they will help you learn the proper techniques to ghost hunting. Most of all relax and have fun. The lectures given are top notch.

I am not keen on ''organised events'' as you can never be sure they are not helping things along.

Even in a private home you have to be very careful the owners are not helping to give the impression the place is haunted.

No, actually it's more of a sensory thing. I don't think I would want to go to an event that large and invest more energy fumbling than experiencing.
That's just me. Something to look forward to in the future, though.

Like ghostlady, I'm sure some smaller organized tours are beefed up for effect, but for me, it's more proof of something beyond this realm than thrillseeking. Confirmation of something I've always believed but could never prove. Am I skeptical? Sure, of some things. I think we all are to a degree.

Cayen, have you been on many Darkness events?

just went on my first one and enjoyed the hell out of it. I got to learn alot not only from the speakers but from other people and groups that came.

It probably sounds corny, but the Darkness tours appeal to me.

If/when I invest the $, I want to have some off time to take a mini vacation and travel to other locations in and around wherever the event is taking place. Would also like to have been on at least a handful of smaller tours, just to have some experience with equipment. Thinking it would make a larger event a lot more enjoyable.

As for the tours, no matter if you do an event or smaller tours you'll enjoy yourself. keep that in mind.

Just joined this website today - lots of interesting posts. I totally agree with what Curiosity said, "confirmation of something I've always believed but could never prove". I've been a member of a paranormal group in Sacramento for a year now, and we've had some very interesting experiences. I captured some evp's at our last investigation in Nevada City that were awesome. It definitely was an intelligent haunting and whatever it was had a sense of humor! I look forward to sharing experiences with like minded people....
