In the beginning of January, Mike (my hubby) and I went out to the Palmer House in Sauk Centre MN for a paranormal retreat with Darkness Radio. We left the house early Friday morning for the two hour drive up to the Palmer. The trip up was uneventful, checked in to our hotel, and then drove the remaining two blocks to the Palmer. As soon as we got there I wandered around, and got to meet Patrick Burns from TRUtv's Haunting Evidence.

Patrick is a great guy, a little busy when we got there, but he still made time to say hi, and gave me a hug. *grin* We found Dave and Chris Fleming. I met Chris the first time at the Stanley trip back in November of 06, and he actually remembered that. Plus working on his website for him probably helped jog the memory a bit too... lol. After wandering around a bit, I found out that we were going to be web-casting the event thanks to Patrick, so I helped out with running the camera for the event.

It was a little rough in the beginning making sure the web-cast stayed running, but once the kinks were worked out, it ran great.

Friday night I went with a group on the investigations. A couple people felt hair being pulled, or being tapped on the leg. One girl in another group passed out in the basement. Nothing really exciting happened to the group I was in until we went up to use the Franks Box with Patrick.

I'm still kinda on the fence about the Franks Box.. It did seem to respond a few times directly to some of the questions, and even called out Patrick's name several times. A couple people actually got that on their recorders, I had a copy of it on mine, but managed to fubar the transfer (the joys of bringing a new "toy" to an investigation- learn how the stuff works FIRST !)

Saturday we broadcast the lectures again, and I got to have fun behind the camera all day, and that night we kept the web-cast running during investigation time. Dave and Tim had the Franks Box out in front of the café area, and we recorded all of that nights session. Dave asked the box to say his middle name, and it responded nearly immediately with what sounds to be the correct answer.

I didn't go around the hotel with a group Saturday night because I was too interested in the Franks box... I even say in FRONT of the camera next to the box for a while (big deal for those that know me- I'm more of a behind the scenes person than being in front of the camera)

Sunday was laid back, we had evidence review from 11-1, and then the goodbyes. On the way home, we got a flat tire... so I am sitting out in the cold trying to fumble with the dang lugnuts... and my fingers are freezing!

Drove down to the studio Sunday night for the live show with Chris and Patrick- ran the web-cam again... let me tell you- holding a camera for more than 20 minutes really starts to make the arms hurt! No room for the tripod to get a good angle, so I was the "Byn-Pod"... lol...

Overall- it was a GREAT weekend, and one that I will not forget Smile

That does sound like a great time. I enjoyed hearing about it on Darkness Radio. I'm a big fan of ghost boxes, too. Different versions are of varying quality, but I get incredible results from my little Radio Shack hack. I've got a whole section devoted to it on my website if you need more convincing it's for real. For me, getting Oscar to repeat words to me in Chinese was pretty darned impressive. =)

Hi xx

I was so gutted when I missed the Palmer House Event; I had so planned on going and spent weeks trying to persuade my other half to put off his business trip to Mexico; obviously I failed! lol It wasn't a trip he could put off as it was all planned down to the last meeting Sad So I hope that Chris will be down that way again for other investigations - This time I'll be able to get baby sitters as we've been here longer now and know a few trusted people...that the kids get on with!

Right, to the point as to why I posted - Franks Box - I hadn't heard of this at all until a recent episode of PS. I would be grateful if someone could explain to me what it is and how it works?

From what I saw on the programme, it wasn't enough to make any judgments as to whether or not I'm skeptical about it as they didn't really cover the subject too well. But I can certainly see it as a useful possibility for investigations as there are instant responses, rather than using a recorder to play over when the investigation is finished making that EVP session more productive.

My eyes are peeled for more events in Sauk Centre/St Cloud and surrounding areas Very Happy

I've simply explained what a Frank's box is before, however I don't mind talking about it again since i myself am wanting to do a bit more research on one, and learn a bit more about it. (yes I'm probably going out tomorrow to radio shack and build my own box.)

A Franks box or ghost box is a radio that constantly scans through the frequencies without stopping. while it is doing this the speaker is still pumping out sounds to the point it's a garbled mixture of sounds, voices, ect. In this garbled mixture ghosts can use the mixture to form words, or even speak through the box itself.

However it's still up in debate as to whether or not it's a ghost or just one of the signals coming through more dominate. My thoughts are simply this: I'm not going to knock it till I actually get to play with one. I have heard all sorts of stories about how good the ghost boxes are.

Infact Dave from darkness radio shared a funny story about using the box with John Zaffis (not sure if this is right) after while John said he was too tired for this and was going to bed. The frank's box spat out "Welcome to the old timer's club"

xx Thank you for taking the time to explain this for my benefit - mucho appreciated! Hmmm interesting, like you say though - there is that questionable doubt as to what those sounds could actually be if they are pulling sounds from everywhere and anywhere, perhaps hearing what we want to hear or coincidences etc... Could be in play there but again though, as I've no experience with a box I can't comment as to the viability of it. This is probably a dumb question but I'm full of those; Wouldn't leaving a radio channel on 'fuzz' or white noise serve a similar purpose but without the chance of interference from unknown but explainable sources? This whole EVP thing is something I know little about so i'm full of queries, sorry if i'm asking old questions and I do appreicate time and knowledge shared xxx

Actually thats a good question about the white noise. Researchers have found that white noise produces better/stronger EVPs. However you can't get the realtime 'EVP' that you can with a Frank's box. From what I'm noticing from listening to the Frank's box audios from sources like Abbeygal, Chris moon, Darkness radio, and actually hearing how a Frank's box garbles messages, I am wondering the probability of getting an answer your looking for from different sources.

Even common words like yes or no aren't really used all that often in radio, even if your scanning through 100 different stations. Again I need to really sit down and play with the box before I can pass judgement.
